What does bandwidth mean?

Even light termed monochromatic has an intensity distribution in which the light is distributed over a very narrow wavelength range (or frequency range) that is nevertheless definitely measurable. The wavelength range measured at half of the intensity maximum is the bandwidth or full width at half maximum (FWHM) of the light.
