What is a High Power LED?

A high-power LED is a light-emitting diode that is able to absorb a lot of electrical power and convert it into light. Since LEDs usually operate at low voltages of less than 5V, the current consumption of high-power LEDs must be very high and can be up to 30A. High-power LEDs can produce a large amount of light from a small package and are used in applications that require high luminance.

High power LEDs are offered in various forms, e.g. on metal core printed circuit board (MCPCB). This enables optimal heat coupling. Since high-power LEDs generate high power in a compact design and generate a lot of heat in a small area, efficient thermal coupling is particularly important.

An example of a light source in which the currently most powerful high-power LEDs are installed is our LS-HP1. This LED light source is available in different versions, including white light sources and single-color versions. The LS-HP1 couples the light into a liquid light guide. The high luminance of the high-power LEDs makes it possible to couple a lot of light into liquid light guides with core diameters of 3 and 5mm.

High power LEDs are used in a wide range of applications, including machine vision, high-speed photography, microscopy, and life science. They offer high light output and can produce short light pulses, making them ideal for applications that require precise and intense illumination.
